General data : Cajamarca is located in the northeast of Lima at 855 kilometers by asphalt road and only at 194 kilometers from the coast line. At only 2719 meters above sea level, Cajamarca is an Andean city founded in the lower region of the Andean mountains near the Amazon region. The Chachapoyas highway, one of the most impressive Peruvian roads due to its spectacular sceneries of the Oriental Andean Mountains and the Amazon region, starts in Cajamarca.
Cajamarca houses many Inca ruins, being the "Rescue Room" of Atahualpa its most reknown site. Atahualpa was the last Inca Emperor and, as the price for his freedom, he offered the Spaniard Francisco Pizarro the Rescue Room filled twice with Silver and once with Gold. |
