Lima, named the "City of Kings" by the Spanish conquerors, is the country’s capital as well as the main gateway into Peru. It is, indeed, a city of contrasts, like a microcosm of Peruvian history from the pre-Inca civilizations, through the founding of the city in 1535 by the Spaniards, right up to the present times. Lima is also renowned for its nearby pre-Inca archeological sites, as well as for its fabulous museums which house priceless national and private artifacts.

If time is available, please make sure not to miss the oracle and temple of Pachacamac, the administrative center of the Puruchuco Pre-Inca Civilization, as well as various museums such as the "Mujica Gallo" Gold Museum, the Amano Museum (collection of pre-Inca textiles), and the Larco Herrera Museum with its pre-Columbian collection of erotic art. The Archeological Museum is also a must see for all visitors to this city.
